World Town Planning Day
World Town Planning Day is an international day held on November 8th that reminds everyone to participate in improving and building their local community.
Celebrate World Town Planning Day (WTPD) throughout November by participating in the following activities and events:

WTPD Activity Table – Colouring pages and a planning themed word search! These activities will be available throughout November at the Grimsby Public Art Gallery (18 Carnegie Lane). Both the colouring pages and word search are available for download.

WTPD Book Display – Learn about Town Planning at Grimsby Public Library (18 Carnegie Lane)! This book display will be available beginning November 12 and throughout the rest of the month.

WTPD Story Time - Town planning is for everyone! Caregivers and children (ages 3+) can enjoy this story time session at the Grimsby Public Library (18 Carnegie Lane) on November 29 at 11:00 a.m.

WTPD Walking Tour – Join local planners and historians for a walking tour of Downtown Grimsby on November 29. Further details are to follow.

WTPD Photo Showcase – Submit your original photos of Grimsby and vote for your favourites. Winners will be chosen and announced online in January. To learn more about prizes, and how to submit a photo, please read the World Town Planning Day Photo Showcase Information below.
World Town Planning Day Photo Showcase Information
Show off your love of Grimsby and photo-taking talent!
As part of the Official Plan Review, and in celebration of World Town Planning Day, you are encouraged to submit a photo that illustrates what you love most about Grimsby in one of the photo categories below:
1. Neighbourhoods - Show off the wonderful qualities of a neighbourhood in Grimsby – from Downtown, Grimsby on the Lake, Grimsby Beach to so many more!
2. Buildings - Have a favourite building in Grimsby that needs celebrating? From houses, businesses, civic buildings, or structures – what one brings you joy?
3. Landscapes - Grimsby has a host of beautiful landscapes – from Lake Ontario, the Escarpment, trails, farms, parks and natural areas – which one is your favourite?
All entries are due by December 12th, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. Submit your entry by completing this form.
Residents and visitors will be asked to submit a ballot for their favourite images in each of the three categories. Voting starts on December 18th, 2024, and closes on January 15, 2025.
Up to 3 winners will be chosen – the photographer(s) with the highest number of votes in each of the three categories.
Winners will be contacted and announced online in January.
Official Rules:
By submitting an entry, each entrant unconditionally accepts and agrees to the Official Rules and warrants that his or her entry complies with all requirements set forth in these Official Rules. By entering the contest, you agree and acknowledge that the Town of Grimsby is permitted to receive your registration data. Your entry provides acknowledgement and consent that your name and submission will be made available to the public. You also understand that the Town has no control over and is not responsible for, the use or misuse of materials available on its website, other websites or on social media, including any photographs, videos, or other electronic representations. The Town reserves the right to adjust any deadline(s).
Who May Enter:
The Grimsby Photo Showcase is free to enter and open to all members of the public. Local residents and children are highly encouraged to enter!
Entrants under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian submit their entry, clearly stating the name and age of the photographer, and that the parent or guardians consent is provided.
How to Enter:
To enter, submit your photo (minimum 300KB, maximum 15MB) by completing this form.
If the submission was taken by a minor, a parent or guardian must submit the email on their behalf clearly stating the name and age of the photographer, and that the parent or guardian’s consent is provided.
Location of Images:
All photos must be taken within the Town of Grimsby. Please provide an approximate location the image was taken from when submitting.
If the photo is of an identifiable individual, the permission of the person should be provided with the entry, along with their contact information.
If the photo is of a building, it should be taken from the public sidewalk or right of way, unless the owner has provided permission.
Multiple photos may be submitted; a new submission application should be filled out for each photo.
Image Format:
Photographs must be in digital format.
All digital entries should be submitted in the highest resolution possible, and a minimum of 300KB and a maximum of 15 MB in size and submitted in JPEG format. We encourage submitting the highest resolution possible, as these images print better.
All photos must be an original, single works created by the entrant and not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, and rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property of any person or entity. No other party may have any right, title claim, or interest in the photograph.
Minor burning, dodging and/or color correction is acceptable. Photos found to have been modified beyond this will be rendered ineligible for a prize. As long as the subject of the photo looks natural, it is acceptable.
Photos that are obscene, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate will not be accepted.
Photographs of activities expressly forbidden as inappropriate or dangerous will be rendered ineligible.
Submissions should not be watermarked, nor obscured, with text or copyright information. This could influence the judging process, and such entries will not be honored if the photographer is unable or unavailable to provide a pristine version of the image.
The Town reserves the right to shift any photo contest entry into a different category should the photographer choose a category that does not best suit the photo.
Judging:
Judging will be done by residents and visitors online starting on December 18th, 2024 and ends on January 15th, 2025. It is anticipated that there will be 3 winners of the Grimsby Photo Showcase: The photograph with the highest number of votes by category - Neighbourhoods, Buildings, Landscapes. Prizes will not be awarded in any category where no submissions are received.
By entering this contest, entrants agree that the decisions are final and indisputable.

How Photos will be Used and Copyright:
All photos submitted will be used to celebrate Grimsby and may be used in future Town of Grimsby publications, social media or on the website.
Entrants will retain all copyrights to their photographs. By entering the Photo Contest, each entrant herby grants a perpetual, non-exclusive license to the Town of Grimsby, to use entrant’s submissions in whole or in part, to reproduce, display, and create derivative works of the entrant’s submission in connection with the Photo Showcase and marketing, advertising, and promotion, in any media now or hereafter known, for no additional compensation, as well as in connection with a display at potential exhibitions of winners; and publication on social media channels or other communications, publications, and educational displays. The Town does not need to obtain additional consent from entrants relating to, or to notify entrants prior to, the use of any submitted photograph(s). The Town will credit the photographer to the best of our ability and has the right to use their name in connection with publicity regarding the photo showcase. The Town understands that the entrant can revoke their consent anytime in writing and that their photos, videos and other information will no longer be used by the Town; however, posts already made, as authorized by their contest submission, may not be able to be removed or deleted.
