Recreation Summer Employment

The Town of Grimsby Parks, Recreation and Culture Department hires a number of summer students each year to deliver recreation programs, aquatic safety, and park and facility maintenance. Please see the descriptions below regarding the available positions for summer student employment, as well as deadlines, requirements, and links to our application forms.

Seasonal Position Listings and Descriptions

Stationed mainly at the Grimsby Lions Community Pool, the pool supervisor ensures the safety of the pools patrons, as well as organizes, implements, and evaluates aquatic programs in cooperation with the Recreation Services Department. The Pool Supervisor is responsible for compliance with relevant legislation, the delivery of aquatic programs and swims, and managing the staff team at the Grimsby Pool. Other responsibilities include customer service, budgeting, and other administrative tasks. The Pool Supervisor also instructs lessons and lifeguards as per the descriptions below. 

Contract Length: May - September
Hours per week: 35+ during an average week

Required Certification:

            Standard First Aid and CPR C

            National Lifeguard Service award

            Lifesaving Society - Swim Instructor Award

            Lifesaving Society – Lifesaving Instructor award

 

Stationed mainly at the Grimsby Lions Community Pool, the assistant supervisor assists in the organization, implementation, and evaluation of aquatic programs in cooperation with the Recreation Services Department. The Assistant supervisor assists in compliance with relevant legislation, the delivery of aquatic programs and swims, and managing the staff team at the Grimsby Pool. Other responsibilities include customer service, budgeting, and other administrative tasks. The assistant supervisor also instructs lessons and lifeguards as per the descriptions below. 

 

Contract Length: May - End of August
Hours per week: 35+ during an average week

Required Certification:

            Standard First Aid and CPR C

            National Lifeguard Service award

            Lifesaving Society  - Swim Instructor Award

            Lifesaving Society – Lifesaving Instructor award

Working at the Grimsby Lions Community Pool, Instructors carry out the scheduled swimming lesson programs in a professional, safe and enthusiastic manner.  Instructors ensure a positive, age appropriate learning environment for all swimming classes, incorporating principles of safety awareness, healthy child development and inclusion. Instructors also often guard the pool, and are responsible for the safety of patrons in the pool as per their responsibilities under the National Lifeguard Service Award:

 

Contract Length: Late June - End of August

Hours per week: 35+ during an average week

 

Required Certification:

            Standard First Aid and CPR C

            National Lifeguard Service award

            Lifesaving Society - Swim Instructor award

            Lifesaving Society – Lifesaving Instructor award (an asset not required)

Working at the Grimsby Lions Community Pool, Lifeguards provide a safe and enjoyable aquatic environment for the public. Lifeguards practice and promote safety awareness at all times ensuring the safety, well-being and enjoyment of all patrons, volunteers, and fellow staff members. Guards also prevent any foreseeable accidents from occurring by continuously scanning and evaluating the pool environment and maintaining ongoing communication with all staff.

 

Contract Length: Late June - End of August

Hours per week: 35+ during an average week

 

Required Certification:

            Standard First Aid and CPR

Stationed at the Peach King Centre for planning, and at the camp location for the summer, Camp Supervisors are responsible for the planning and organization of their Summer Camp and the safety and enjoyment of their participants. Supervisors also coordinate their camp staff team, as well as providing training, allocate the camp budget and respond to parent inquires and customer service. There is also a strong administrative component to this position.

Stationed at a camp location for the summer, Camp Leaders ensure the safety and well-being of all participants through constant supervision during all program hours.  This includes all transition areas, offsite excursions and during any transportation that is a part of the program. Leaders deliver clear, age appropriate and accurate instructions for all programs activities as well as create a program environment the is fun, safe, and participant centered. 

 

Contract Length: End of June - End of August
Hours per week: 35+ during an average week

Town of Grimsby Summer Camps

  • Sports Camp

 

Working with the Park and Facilities Team the Parks and Facilities Summer Student will assist with a variety of takes in Grimsby Parks and Facilities. Work can include litter clean up, grass trimming & cutting, heavy lifting, garden cultivating, weeding, digging, & watering. Depending on location, work can include janitorial duties as well as painting.

 

Contract Length: 14-16 weeks starting in May
Hours Per Week: 35 (including some weekends and evenings)

 

Required Certification:

            Standard First Aid and CPR

            Valid G2 License and Drivers Abstract

            WHIMIS Training an asset
