Hunting

Discharge of Firearms and Bows

On Monday, October 16, 2023, Town Council voted to maintain the current practice of no discharge of firearms or bows anywhere within the Town of Grimsby, on land or water for the purpose of hunting.

At the Council meeting held on November 6th, 2023, Town Council passed the Discharge of Firearms and Bows By-law (By-law 23-88), with a slight amendment to the original By-law, by approving the use of bows on private lands south of Ridge Rd., for the purpose of hunting.

As part of the By-law, the discharge of firearms are NOT permitted for hunting, however the By-law includes exemptions for farmers to protect their crops and livestock.

  • Any resident or person – are permitted to hunt with a bow on private property if south of Ridge Rd., with permission from the property owner (firearms are not permitted).
  • Farmers – are permitted to discharge a firearm or bow to protect their crops and livestock.

As a reminder, penalties for violating the Town of Grimsby’s discharge of firearms and bows By-law, may come with a penalty from $500.00 to $100,000.00.

The By-law is currently being amended to reflect these changes, and will be posted on the commonly requested By-law page of our website at https://www.grimsby.ca/en/town-hall/by-laws.aspx.
