Black History Month
Today marks the beginning of Black History Month and the theme for 2024 is Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate; a Future to Build. During the month of February, we invite you to join us in celebrating the rich history and achievements of Black Canadians, and honour their legacy as we continue the work towards a more inclusive and equitable future.
Here in Grimsby, a series of events and activities have been planned for residents.
- Join us at the Grimsby Museum on February 1, 2024 from 6 – 8:30 p.m. to enjoy the Maybe Might Matter: Redefining Creativity in the Age of AI exhibition to get inspired by the dynamic relationship between art and technology.
- Visit the Grimsby Public Library for a selection of movies available via Kanopy highlighting Black History Month and discover the ‘Collection Feature’ with books focused on this significant topic. There is also a wide selection of books and educational resources for children, teens and adults, written by Canadian Black authors.
- On Saturday February 17, 2024 from 2:30 – 3 p.m., the Grimsby Public Library is also offering Forest of Reading Story Time: ‘My Fade is Fres’ by Shauntay Grant (this story is for ages 3-7). Visit https://www.grimsby.ca/en/parks-recreation-culture/library.aspx for more information about these events.
No matter where you live, we invite all Canadians to learn more about the contributions of Black Canadians and their communities, as they continue to help shape our Canadian history.
