Grimsby celebrates civic dedication with bi-annual recognition program

The Town of Grimsby is proudly making the return of the popular Civic Recognition Program, a well-known initiative dedicated to honouring the contributions of Grimsby residents and businesses. The Civic Recognition Program is a testament to Grimsby’s commitment to celebrate civic engagement and the Town invites nominations from the community.

This program is designed to highlight and celebrate the efforts of those who have demonstrated outstanding community engagement, leadership, and service. Anyone who has significantly enhanced the community through volunteering, notable achievements or has reached a special milestone, such as an anniversary or years of contribution through community service efforts, can be nominated.

Residents can nominate individuals or groups who have shown exceptional dedication and service in various fields. The categories for recognition include: 

Special Achievement Award:

• Citizens who have achieved Provincial, National or International Recognition and, in doing so, have brought honour to the Town of Grimsby.
• Citizens who have completed special projects, voluntary in nature, that have brought favourable publicity to the community or that have contributed positively to the Grimsby community.
• Citizens who have achieved a special milestone through community service efforts. (e.g.  50th anniversary of a volunteer organization serving local purposes).

Outstanding Volunteer Award:

• Those who in the view of Town Council have contributed significantly to the quality of life in the community through their volunteer efforts. 

Mayor’s Special Achievement Award:

• Honouring a Grimsby citizen whose collective contributions to the community are exemplary and of particular distinction. These efforts and contributions have been long standing and has led to considerable positive impacts to the quality of life of Grimsby residents. This award would be given to a local resident that significantly has gone above and beyond the general criteria outlined in this program. The award is reserved for very select and special purposes. The rationale for the award will be fully outlined by the nominator and Council will review the nomination collectively.
  • Please note, this award is only available for nomination by a Council Member to the Mayor for very unique and exception circumstances.

Nominations for the program can be submitted online through the Town of Grimsby’s website. The deadline for submissions is August 23, 2024. Candidates who meet the criteria will be reviewed by Council, and the award recipients will be celebrated at an ceremony in November 2024. 

The program runs every two years however, nominations were open in 2023 but the program was delayed and did not get completed. The Civic Recognition Program was revised and relaunched as of January 2024. All nominators are welcome to resubmit their 2023 nominees, in addition to any new applicants.
