Groundbreaking Ceremony celebrates the construction of the PKC Expansion and Renovation (1)

Today, Mayor Jeff Jordan and Town Council were joined by Amarjot Sandhu, Parliamentary Assistant to Ontario’s Minister of Infrastructure, and Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West, to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Peach King Centre (PKC) Expansion and Renovation Project. The $36.7 million project is a landmark investment by the Town of Grimsby and the Province of Ontario to enhance the health and well-being of the growing Grimsby community.

In 2021 the Town of Grimsby received a $16 million funding commitment from the Province of Ontario to support this transformational project. The expanded centre will bring a host of new and improved amenities for residents and visitors. Key new features of the centre will include a double gymnasium, indoor walking track, youth centre, fitness amenities, multi-purpose rooms, and upgrades to arena dressing rooms. Improvements will extend to the Town Hall/PKC site, including parking upgrades, new pedestrian walkways and infrastructure for active transportation.

The state-of-the-art facility will become a focal point of community life, where residents can come together to engage in programs, classes, events, and social activities. Home to local organizations including Grimsby Basketball, Pickleball, Minor Hockey, the Seniors Club, West Niagara Special Olympics and more, the centre will cater to individuals of all ages and interests.

Joined by Staff, community leaders and the project team, the groundbreaking for the PKC Expansion and Renovation marks a significant and exciting milestone to advance the highly anticipated project. Although under construction, a portion of the existing facility will reopen from September 2024 to March 2025 for ice-only operations. The new and improved centre is expected to officially open its doors in Fall 2025.
