Mayor Jeff Jordan commences 2022-2026 Term of Council with Inaugural Address

On Monday November 21st, Mayor Jeff Jordan welcomed Grimsby residents and their newly elected councillors to Town Hall to mark the beginning of the 2022-2026 Council Term. The meeting opened with a Smudging Ceremony led by Jackie Labonta, a traditional knowledge keeper and local member of the Haudenosaunee. Following the Elected Oath of Office and a performance from Gordon Scott of the Grimsby Pipe Band, Mayor Jordan remarked that the 2022-2026 Council is ready to “work together, get down to business, and take on important issues in the community”.

Key priorities laid out in the address for the 2022-2026 term include the return to standing committees, construction of West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, the expansion of the Peach King Centre, growing local transit, and continuing work to bring the Go Train to Grimsby. Guiding these goals and this term, will be a “commitment to transparency, accountability an integrity” said Mayor Jordan, further noting that Council fully intends to “respect those principles and put them into practice” over the next four years.

With the short inaugural meeting being largely ceremonial, Grimsby’s new council will work towards its goals beginning with the next regular meeting of Council on December 5th. Residents are invited and encouraged to attend all meetings, whether in person or online @ www.grimsby.ca/livestream.
