New dog licensing program rolls out in the Town of Grimsby
A simplified online experience paired with a complimentary lost pet service will add value to dog licences
The Town of Grimsby is rolling out exciting changes in dog licensing and has partnered with DocuPet, a world-leading pet profile, lost pet and licensing platform, to provide pet owners with a more convenient and accessible way to license their dogs. The new system will be in place and ready for pet owners on December 14th, 2023.
"We are really excited at the benefits the new system will bring to our residents,” said Bonnie Nistico-Dunk, Acting Director of Legislative Services and Town Clerk for the Town of Grimsby. “It provides the most advanced pet licensing program and offers some additional safety measures for dog owners. The new licensing system will be ready to launch next week and we are asking dog owners to wait to renew their licences until it’s in place."
The new DocuPet system will offer many unique benefits to Town of Grimsby dog owners, including:
- Convenient registration that will be available online, by telephone, by mail, or in person at the municipal office.
- Every dog licence will include DocuPet's HomeSafe™ 24/7 lost pet service at no extra charge. Each DocuPet tag has a unique code on the back that’s tied to that pet’s secure online profile. Should they get loose, anyone who finds them can reference this code and contact the 24/7 dispatch team that helps connect pet finders with pet guardians to make happy reunions happen.
- Residents will be able to upgrade their licence tag to one of DocuPet’s designer tag styles, which are recognized as a pet’s official Town of Grimsby licence. Browse hundreds of colourful and unique designer licence tag styles online or design your own tag with an easy-to-use customization tool. Plus, pet owners can personalize their pet’s tag by adding their phone number and pet's name to the back for a nominal fee.
- Through DocuPet’s Safe&Happy Fund, 20% of every designer tag purchase is donated to the Humane Society of Greater Niagara, providing much-needed resources for animals in need.
All dogs residing in the Town of Grimsby are required to hold a valid licence. Previously, all licences expired annually on December 31st, but through the new licensing partnership with DocuPet, all licences will be valid for a full 365 days after the date of purchase. Any licences expiring on December 31st, 2023 will be extended to January 31, 2024, to allow pet owners an easy transition into the new program.
