2024 Due Dates

Tax installments are due on the first Friday in March, May, August, and October.

Tax Bill First Installment Second Installment
Interim March 1, 2024 May 3, 2024
Final August 2, 2024 October 4, 2024

Taxpayers have the following payment options available to them:

  • Payments can be made at Town Hall and at most financial institutions in person, by telephone or by internet banking. Payments made through your financial institution can take up to 3-5 days to reach us, which may result in payments being received after the due date.
  • Installments can also be paid by postdated cheques provided the taxes are paid by the regular due dates.
    • A nightly depository is available at the front entrance of Town Hall for cheque payments only. Anything received after 4:30 pm will be processed and considered received on the following business day.
    • Credit card payments are not accepted at Town Hall. Please visit the Town website for further details on credit card payments.

Taxpayers are responsible for ensuring payment reaches us on or before the due date. Penalties of 1.25% are added on the fourth business day of default and on the first day of each month following, on all outstanding amounts. Penalties cannot be waived. Failure to receive a bill does not excuse the non-payment of taxes.

For more information, please check out the Final Tax Bill insert.

Tax bill not received

All property owners in Grimsby must pay their property taxes. Failure to receive a tax bill does not exempt you from paying your taxes.

Penalties for late payment

Tax arrears are subject to late payment charges.  Late payment charges are imposed on the unpaid levies the fourth business day following the tax instalment due date (i.e. Due Friday with penalties applied Thursday morning).  In addition, as long as the property taxes remain unpaid, interest will be added on the first business day each month thereafter. Penalty and interest charge rates are included within the Consolidated Fees and Charges By-Law and cannot be waived, except where a Town error has occurred.

Payments made at a bank

Payments made through your financial institution may take up to 5 days to reach our office which may result in payments not being received until after the due date and could result in late penalties.
